Her death led to one of the most controversial and debated trials in American history. Shortly after graduating from high school, she met her future husband, O.J. Simpson, while working as a waitress in a nightclub. She married Simpson on February 2, 1985, who thereafter retired from professional football. The couple had two children. After seven years of marriage, they divorced in 1992. On the morning of June 13, 1994, neighbors, alarmed by barking dogs, found the mutilated bodies of Nicole Brown and her new boyfriend, Ronald Goldman, in the entryway of their Los Angeles condo. At the time of the murders, her children were sleeping in the apartment. O.J. Simpson was arrested and charged with both murders. The criminal proceedings ended in an acquittal. In a civil lawsuit, Simpson was ordered to pay the Brown and Goldman families $33.5 million in damages, a claim that has yet to be enforced.
