is known as the victim of an attack by the Manson Family in connection with the murders of actress Sharon Tate and her friends. He was arrested several times for petty theft and other offenses and spent time in juvenile detention. Steven Parent was actually not directly connected to the celebrity couple Sharon Tate/Roman Polański or their friends. He was an acquaintance of William Garretson, the caretaker of the Polanskis' Cielo Drive estate. On the evening of the murder, on the night of August 8-9, 1969, Parent was paying a brief visit to Garretson's when he was being ambushed by the "Manson Family" and one of the "Family" members, Charles "Tex" Watson was killed by four pistol shots in his car. Parent was the only murder victim in the Manson Family who was not stabbed. For years, Steven Earl Parent's parents have challenged the way the authorities handled their son's murder, complaining that the media prefers to report on the high-profile victims and forgets about their son.
